Vito A. Cardo III

Vito A. Cardo III lives in Long Beach, New York with his wife and four children.  Born in Bronx, New York, he was raised in Nassau County in a family with six siblings.  He attended St. Mary’s Boys High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham College, at Fordham University’s Rose Hill Campus.  After graduating from Fordham he obtained his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law in Jamaica, New York.

After gaining admission to the New York State Bar, Mr. Cardo commenced his career at an established defense law firm and ascended to partner in just four years.  In that position. Mr. Cardo handled a wide range of legal matters in insurance defense litigation and general practice matters  and successfully tried and defended numerous cases on behalf of a large religious organization, a significant Suffolk County municipality, a union free school district, and hundreds of individual insureds in medical/dental malpractice, premises and automobile liability matters. 

The breadth of these cases included claims for the following:

  • Negligent roadway design and construction;
  • Labor Law violations;
  • Personal injuries sustained as the result of alleged negligent/reckless operation of motor vehicles, private and commercial;
  • Violations of the General Municipal Law;
  • Third Party Actions for contractual indemnity and contribution;
  • Asbestos exposure;
  • Premises Liability, “slip and falls” for defects of the premises including “special use”; and
  • Negligent Supervision of school aged children while in the care and custody of their school or during transportation thereto.

Mr. Cardo next worked for a dynamic boutique defense law firm representing a multination retail department store company in cases involving products liability, premises liability, contractual issues, and automobile liability. 

Most recently, Mr. Cardo worked as General Counsel to a Medical Professional Liability Insurance Company, where he managed regulatory issues, oversaw insurance policy drafting and underwriting, and implemented risk management programs and protocols.  Mr. Cardo was also responsible for overseeing claims management within the program and the review and analysis of asserted claims.
